Where should your data live? A practical answer for Indian businesses

Pick the region closest to your users, which for almost everyone reading this means Mumbai. It is the difference between a page that feels instant and one that feels sluggish, and it costs nothing extra to choose correctly at setup.

On-premise is not automatically more secure. A server in a back office with no patching schedule and one person who knows the password is a bigger risk than a managed cloud instance. On-premise makes sense when a contract or a policy requires it — that is a real reason, and we build for it.

Backups only count if you have restored one. A backup job that has never been tested is a belief, not a safeguard. Restore into a scratch environment once a quarter and time how long it takes; that number is your actual recovery window.

And know who holds the credentials. If only your vendor can access the database, you do not really control your data regardless of which country the server sits in.
